The Certainty of Our Hope (part 1)

“The Certainty of Our Hope”
TEXT: 1 PEter 1:3–5

ONLINE WORSHIP SERVICE (1.24.2021)

CALL TO WORSHIP:

As we draw near to worship, let’s remind ourselves of the foundation of our hope. Psalms 18 says….

30 This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. 31 For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?

OPENING WORSHIP:

“How Firm A Foundation”

WORSHIP:

“Come Behold The Wondrous Mystery”

AFFIRMATION:

1Corinthians 15:12–23

12   Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

20  But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.

WORSHIP:

“In Christ Alone”

“Praise the King”

Prayer:

O Lord today we remind ourselves that without your resurrection we would have no hope. Without your resurrection we would have no living Savior to run to. We would still be dead in our sins, guilty as charged. Yet you rose victorious over sin and death and were declared innocent through your resurrection. Death could not hold you, and death cannot hold us because we are in you! Your innocence is now transferred to us as you raise us to new life.

Yet we still live in a world of decay, and sickness, and political upheaval. We see injustice, we see division, we see violence.

Yet, there is hope for us, for all who are joined to you through faith. You’re not done yet. You’ve promised that we will receive new glorified bodies, just like yours. And that’s not all. You’ve promised to renew all of creation and then dwell in it with us forever!

Help us to set our hope fully on this future grace that will be brought to us when you come again (1Peter 1:13)! Remind us of it when we lose sight of it. And would you use Pastor Mark’s words as he comes to preach to create and renew this hope?

In your name we pray, Amen!
