Elders: The Shepherds of the Local Church

Text: Acts 20:17-38 Main Idea: Faithful eldership looks like mature Christian men humbly shepherding, leading, and protecting the church through their winsome, persevering, and fearless proclamation of God’s authoritative Word as they prayerfully depend on God’s grace and power for everything they need to fulfill their calling.

Text:  Matthew 18:15–20 Main Point: When it comes to formal declarations about the “what” and “who” of the gospel, the gathered membership of the local church is the highest authority under Jesus Christ himself.

Text: Various Selections Main Idea:  Church membership is a formal relationship between a church and a Christian characterized by the church’s affirmation and oversight of a Christian’s discipleship and the Christian’s submission to living out his or her discipleship in the care of the church.

Text: Matthew 16:13-19 Main Idea: The church is inextricably anchored in a proper confession of Jesus and has been sovereignly commissioned to carry out Jesus’ kingdom purposes.

Sovereign God, Humble Savior

Text: Luke 2:1-7 Main Idea: Jesus was born as a baby in a lowly manger so that he could fully identify with fallen man and fully satisfy God’s wrath against our sinful rebellion.

The God Who Lifts the Lowly

Text: Luke 1:39-56 Main Idea: God is worthy of our trust and worship because he fulfills his every promise and loves to lift the lowly who humbly trust him for their every need.
