A Note From Pastor Mark:
We recognize that family worship has its unique challenges depending on your family’s size and stage of life. Therefore, we have prepared a complete worship service (below) for our entire church family because we are convinced that Sunday is so much more than a sermon. And this is one way for us to be worshiping the same way even though we are apart.
We suggest that you test the worship and sermon links before you gather your family. After you have done this, we encourage the leader of the house to read the prayers and appoint other readers as necessary to encourage greatest participation.
After the sermon is over, we encourage you to discuss the sermon and ways to live out its application.

Call to Worship:
Let’s look away from the circumstances that surround us and set our focus on God, whose steadfast love has not run out!!
Psalm 108:3–4 I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. 4 For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. (ESV)

Let’s read the following Scripture passage together:
Isaiah 53:3–11
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the LORD’S will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
11 After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

“Jesus Paid It All”
Prayer:
Jesus paid it all!! We sing that with confidence today, knowing that if you loved us enough to die, then you will surely come through for us and meet all of our needs during this difficult time (Romans 8:32). We know that nothing can separate us from your love….no “tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword” (Romans 8:35). Nothing is big enough or strong enough to keep your love from us…even the mountain of sin that separated us from you. You have washed us white as snow!
Yet we confess that our confidence in you wavers. We go through our week with many ups and downs. At moments our hearts are trusting in your goodness even though we don’t understand what you are doing. Other moments we are frustrated, wanting to be done with this trial, and eager to get back to life the way it was. Please forgive us for our failures to hold on to your promises!
Give us the strength to keep looking to you. Thank you that you don’t cast us away when we struggle to remember that you love us, and have not planned for this trial to hurt us. Give us reminders when our gaze is not where it should be. Guide us as we receive and give encouragement from your Word to our fellow believers.
During this difficult time, we thank you that you are giving us opportunities to serve our neighbors. Would you make us glad servants, who look to you for the strength we need to accomplish the task at hand? Help us serve those who are hurting, comfort the weak, and lift up the needy. Open doors for gospel proclamation through loving conversations. Make us bold, Lord, to share with those around us! As difficult circumstances open their hearts and minds to your truth, may your Word on our lips find its place and take root!
We ask for wisdom for our leaders. Show our county officials what needs to be done in our cities. Help Governor Inslee to receive expert counsel from his advisors. As he makes tough decisions, guide him down the path that is best for our state. Direct President Trump through the difficult choices he must make. Help him to unite our nation to fight this virus.
This trial is great, and our hearts grieve for those who are hurting. Many have lost their loved ones. Many have lost their jobs and don’t know what to do. We cry out, “How long, oh Lord?” Please remove this scourge from among us!
Yet, Lord, we trust in you. You are the slain Lamb, the only one who is worthy to direct the course of human affairs. You are moving all things, including this virus, toward its fitting end!

“Is He Worthy”
Prayer:
Oh Lord, thank you that you meet us in the midst of hardships and sorrows and pain. And you haven’t chosen to meet us at a safe distance so as to avoid the sickness of sin. Rather you became man so that you could take on all the pain and suffering of sin. You suffered as one of us, and you died it in our place! What a wonder, what a joy!
And thank you that through your own suffering you have made it possible to do away with all suffering for your people. All of our troubles will come to an end, one day! We look forward to that day when we will be with you, safe from all harm!
Now, Lord, we turn to your Word. We want to hear from you. Show us again the beauty of Calvary! Open our hearts again to experience the wonder of your love! And may we respond with hearts full of joy! Amen!

The Crucifixion of Jesus
Main Point: It is impossible to grasp who Jesus is and why Jesus came apart from his shameful death on the cross. Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sins so that we might be restored to God.
