A NOTE FROM PASTOR MARK:

We recognize that family worship has its unique challenges depending on your family’s size and stage of life. Therefore, we have prepared a complete worship service (below) for our entire church family because we are convinced that Sunday is so much more than a sermon. And this is one way for us to be worshiping the same way even though we are apart.

We suggest that you test the worship and sermon links before you gather your family. After you have done this, we encourage the leader of the house to read the prayers and appoint other readers as necessary to encourage greatest participation.

After the sermon is over, we encourage you to discuss the sermon and ways to live out its application.

Song lyrics are available to download. (Click here for lyric sheets).

I AM ADopted: I am A Child of God
TEXT: GALATIANS 4:4–7

ONLINE WORSHIP SERVICE (5.24.2020)

CALL TO WORSHIP:

As we join in worship today, that we are not coming to a local, tribal god. We are coming to worship the Lord of the universe….

Revelation 19:1–2
“Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for his judgments are true and just.”

Psalms 145:3
“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.”

OPENING WORSHIP:

“Mighty to Save”

“Behold  Our God”

prayer:

Lord, as we consider how great you are, that you are mighty to save, that you are the Creator of the universe, that you reign in power, we are reminded that often we fail to worship you as such. How often our thoughts about you are so small. We don’t feel the weight of your worthiness. We don’t appreciate the greatness of your strength. We don’t remember that you are infinitely wiser than us. And so our hearts go after lesser things, things that will not satisfy, things that are not worthy of all of our attention and devotion. Forgive us Lord! We often trade you, the fountain of living water, for cisterns that can hold no water (Jeremiah 2:13).

Where does this leave us before you Lord? We are guilty of sin, though we would rather hide it, or deny that it is there. Our tendency is to minimize what we have done, rather than to freely confess it to you. And the just response we deserve for failing to love you as we ought is for you to cut us off from you forever. You told us the “wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). You told us that apart from you we are “children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3), headed for the place of “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8:12). This is what we deserve. It is what we have earned, and we can do nothing to save ourselves from it.

Then we remember, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses and sins, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:4–5). We remember that it was Christ’s death in our place that saved us, “All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith” (Romans 3:24–25). In response to this amazing grace, we come back to you. And like the Psalmist, we acknowledge and confess our sin to you. Instead of hiding it, we freely admit it. And you forgive all of it (Ps 32:5).

Oh what a wonder that you would take us rebels and make them your treasure! You take sinners who are far from you and make them into daughters and sons. You bring us into your family and lavish us with your unfailing love! Oh Lord let us sing your praises forever! Let us rejoice and worship our God of love!

Worship:

“How Deep The Father’s Love For Us”

AFFIRMATION:

Romans 8:12-17
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

WORSHIP:

“O Praise The Name (Anastasis)”

Prayer:

Praise the Lord! What a great salvation you have accomplished! We are glad that you have miraculously rescued us Lord. And yet we know the rescue is not finished. We need you to continue to save us. As we come to your word today, please continue to deliver us from ourselves and our sin. Conform our minds to your truth, and shape our hearts to be more like your heart. Satisfy us again with the gospel and make all other counterfeit rescue plans appear dull and lifeless. Amen.
