A NOTE FROM PASTOR MARK:

We recognize that family worship has its unique challenges depending on your family’s size and stage of life. Therefore, we have prepared a complete worship service (below) for our entire church family because we are convinced that Sunday is so much more than a sermon. And this is one way for us to be worshiping the same way even though we are apart.

We suggest that you test the worship and sermon links before you gather your family. After you have done this, we encourage the leader of the house to read the prayers and appoint other readers as necessary to encourage greatest participation.

After the sermon is over, we encourage you to discuss the sermon and ways to live out its application.

Song lyrics are available to download. (Click here for lyric sheets).

I AM ADopted: I am A Child of God
TEXT: GALATIANS 4:4–7

ONLINE WORSHIP SERVICE (5.31.2020)

CALL TO WORSHIP:

Let us turn our hearts to the Lord in worship, calling to mind all of his saving benefits….
Psalms 103:1-5
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

OPENING WORSHIP:

“10,000 Reasons”

“I Know Whom I Have Believed”

affirmation:

John 14:16-20; 25-27
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Worship:

“Cornerstone”

prayer:

Yes, Lord, we remind ourselves that there is no hope apart from you. There is only one Savior. All other paths, all other plans of salvation do not work. Only you coming and dying in our place could save us. So we run from all attempts to earn our own salvation through religious activity or good works. We run from the false promises of those who think what we really need is more wealth and prosperity. We run from the notion all around us that if we chase the American dream it will lead to happiness. It will not. We need a savior who can save us from our sin! We need a hope that will defeat death. This is exactly what you did, Christ, when you “reconciled us by your physical body through death to present us holy in your sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Colossians 1:22).

Your salvation is rock solid. You do not partially save. Rather, those whom you foreknow you predestine. And those you predestine you justify. And those you justify you glorify (Romans 8:29–30). Lord we thank you that you hold on to your own sheep, making sure that none of them are lost (John 6:39). Your power guards us through faith for the coming salvation that you have in store for us (1 Peter 1:5).

We lay down our striving in the strength of the flesh to keep ourselves in your favor. Instead we come to you resting in what Christ has done to open the way to the Father (Hebrews 10:20). Your grace is what put us in right relationship with Christ, and your grace is working in us each and every day to point us to Christ and away from ourselves. Yes we will exert effort, but we do it knowing that you are working powerfully in us to will and work according to your good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). So we can join Paul in saying “not I but the grace of God in me” (1 Corinthians 15:10).

WORSHIP:

“Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me”

Prayer:

Lord we are told that your word is, “living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). As we come now to hear your word explained and applied, would you please expose the true condition of our hearts? Would you reveal areas of pride and self-reliance, places of misplaced trust and false hope. Show us ways in which we are harboring unforgiveness or bitterness or secret sin. Then Lord we pray that you would apply the sweet salve of your grace to the area of need so that it might heal and make us whole. Do this by your Spirit as your Word is proclaimed! Amen.
