The Stone On Which We Will Stumble Or Stand
TEXT: 1 Peter 2:6-8
ONLINE WORSHIP SERVICE (5.2.2021)
CALL TO WORSHIP:
As we gather for worship this morning, I’d like to call you to worship with the words of Psalms 72…
11 May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him!
12 For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.
13 He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy.
14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight.
OPENING WORSHIP:
“All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name”
worship:
“Just As I Am”
affirmation:
John 1:6–14
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
WORSHIP:
“All I Have Is Christ”
“Cornerstone”
Prayer:
Oh Lord we began this worship time by celebrating that you are worthy of the obedience of all the nations because you deliver those who have no helper.
And while we would rather not admit that we are in that category, that we are helpless, the truth is we are. Yet as king you saw our helpless state and did something about it. Your kingship did not mean that you would exempt yourself from getting dirty. Rather as king you chose to set aside your privileges and humbly involve yourself with those who didn’t deserve it. And not only did we not deserve it, we were actively pushing away your helping hand.
Dear Lord, forgive us for our pride. Forgive us for thinking we can make it on our own. Forgive us for pretending to be strong so that we can look good.
Your salvation is all about how great you are! It’s all about how kind and merciful you have been to undeserving and ungrateful enemies. We stand together today and humbly receive the wondrous gift of grace, the gift of salvation…undeserved, unearned, unmerited!
You got dirty with the filth of our sin and suffered the punishment we deserved! You’ve freely pardoned us all of our offenses. What a gracious God you are!
Would you now speak to us through your word. Remind us of your promises, instruct us in the pathway of life, reveal your precious exalted Son that we might love and trust and fear him more!
Amen!
