The Privilege and Purpose of Our Union with Christ
TEXT: 1 Peter 2:4-10

ONLINE WORSHIP SERVICE (4.25.2021)

CALL TO WORSHIP:

As we gather for worship this morning, I’d like to call you to worship with the words of Psalms 5…

11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

OPENING WORSHIP:

“Sing To The King”

worship:

“O God Of Our Salvation”

affirmation:

Hebrews 9:11-14; 26b-28 (NIV)
11
But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation.
12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean.
14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
26b He has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

WORSHIP:

“In Christ Alone”

“Great Are You Lord”

Prayer:

You give life….
You have raised us from the grave of sin and death. When you found us we were lost in our own way, obeying the passions of our flesh, stumbling around in the dark in a desperate attempt to find life. We were the walking dead, so dead we didn’t even know it. We were trapped, with no escape route and no exit plan.

But you give hope….
You love to step into impossible situations and deliver those who are helpless. In the midst of our lost state you made a sweet promise…you said, “All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13) You didn’t require us to fix ourselves or find a way out or begin trying harder. Rather you acknowledged our desperate need and sent your precious Son to rescue us.

Great are you Lord…

  • Great is your mercy!
  • Great is your compassion!
  • Great is your steadfast love and affection!
  • Great is the kindness you bestow!
  • Great is the underserved favor that you free pour out on us!

So yes, Lord we will praise you! We exalt you to the highest place in our lives. You are more valuable than anything else. We devote our lives to making much of you and letting everyone else know how great you really are.

And we long for the day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess you as Lord!

Would you now meet us in your Word? Would you, by the Spirit, take that truth which is yours and speak it over our hearts and minds and lives (John 16:14)? And may you find us ready to receive and apply it.

Amen!
